Comansa offers 3D models of its tower cranes for BIM (Building Information Modelling) systems. Thanks to this modelling technology, our clients can illustrate and simulate full construction, maintenance and even dismantling processes for all kinds of buildings and infrastructure, and they can also include crane specifications. This translates to improved process optimisation and enhanced productivity.

What is BIM?

BIM is a collection of processes and methodologies that allow data to be generated and managed for a project, using a digital model shared between the different actors in the process. Thanks to BIM technology, all types of details can be controlled regarding geometry, the relationship with the space, geographical information, and quantities and properties of the project’s components (for example, the details of tower crane manufacturers, like Comansa). This all helps to estimate costs, plan work and coordinate logistics tasks.

Advantages of using BIM in Construction

By integrating the machinery and components used during construction in BIM planning and project management, occupational aspects, maintenance needs and activities sequences before, during and after the project can be defined and controlled. This computer-aided representation based on objects constitutes a substantial change from traditional methods based on vectorial representation.

Cranes are relevant participants in this process, given that better or poorer management of their assembly, operation and disassembly are key to the project’s progress. Cranes are facilitators of work activity when it comes to transporting loads from one place to another safely and efficiently. If this is poorly planned or not managed in advance, final construction performance suffers.

In addition to the graphic structure, BIM systems feed off the parametrisation of the crane and its components. As such, they provide information such as the load diagram, speeds and performance values of lifting, trolley and turning mechanisms, and any other crane-related data that may be necessary and useful to improving productivity. As well as outlining the structure, they simulate the crane’s performance through its life cycle on the project in a graphic environment.

At Comansa, we continuously work to expand our range of digital products, improve quality and develop the information we provide to our clients. If you would like further information on our 3D crane models for BIM systems, you can contact us through our website.
